Designing and Building an In-House System

Abstract
EP Laboratories has designed and built 3 generations of in-house laboratory information management systems (LIMS). EPLIMS v3.0 is the latest version that is a full-featured LIMS capable of handling data requirements for chemistry, sedimentology and ecotoxicology laboratories. The history of the EPLIMS is discussed from its early stages in a DOS environment to today's multi-user relational database framework. The process of defining an in-house LIMS using various techniques will also be explored and the current capabilities of the EPLIMS will be presented.
